So you are one of the countless thousands of women who have a man who appreciates beer (or love it yourself), I'm there, too. I've done several beer related gifts through the years; pilsner glasses, steins, a cute 6 pack mixer with cheesy labels "you make me so hoppy," and this year... I sort of ran out of ideas! Yes, I get him other things, too, but it is tradition to do a beer-related present. I mean, he gets use out of it and he truly enjoys his brews.
He has an opener he really enjoys, it is "balanced" and feels good in his hand- but he often misplaces it! I figured this year I would combine a few things he loves and make him his very own beer bottle opener that he CANT lose. Ready for it?
You can pick any state, but I chose Ohio (go Bucks!) because it is his home state and they've got some seriously good local brews. I bought the vinyl on the Trading Phrases website and picked my state HERE. I chose white because I knew I wanted to stain my boards, but you can probably skip that step and choose black for good contrast or even a school color or something.
When the decal came in a few days later I bought a small board at Lowes and cut it in 1/2 as it was too long (I made two, because... why not) and stained it with a dark walnut stain I had laying around my garage.
Next I applied the decal and screwed in one of these beer openers that I found on Amazon- pack of 6 HERE for $15 (prime) but you can get just one HERE for $9, I didn't need 6 but couldn't pass up the deal.
That is it! If you want it to lean against the wall you can end with that, but I put on some little hooks in the back so I could screw it directly into the wall as a counter weight. I put one up by the keg in the office (yeah, we are pretty cool), but plan to give the other to my main squeeze on Christmas- so I'll let you know the verdict there. So far the guys at the office are loving this one. |
