Synopsis: Rare, but it does happen- especially in winter! Read this blog to hear how to circumvent this problem.

Hi Trading Phrases customers!

I’m going to write to you today about something a bit unusual, a bit less fun but very important, something that most businesses don’t like to talk about too terribly much when they go out to sell a product.

What happens when the product you buy from us doesn’t work?

Well, first of all, you should call us! Our customer service line is open from 10 AM- 5 PM EST, Monday through Friday at 800-615-6473. Our friendly CSRs would be happy to help you with anything regarding our decals! Sometimes, the problem can be solved over the phone very easily. Sometimes, however, it cannot be solved over the phone. In these situations, we send out replacement decals if it’s been less than 60 days since your purchase!

This means, even if you drop it and the design sticks to itself and you can’t salvage it…no problem! E-mail us a picture of the damage and we can send a new decal out at no cost to you.

But what if the decal you love is applied to the wall already? What if it’s only “sort of” sticking, but every now and again you have to press the edges of the decal down onto your wall? What if it’s driving you absolutely crazy every time you pass by? How can you fix it without having to take the whole thing off and wait on a replacement from us? Here at Trading Phrases we have an easy solution! It only requires yourself and a hair dryer.

Since it is now winter and the decals are leaving our office after being lovingly cared for by us- and entering into a world of package trucks and freezing temperatures before it reaches you... they might not always cooperate. Picture the decals with an adhesive backing made of glue... now picture glue in a freezer- it isn't going to be as tacky when it is freezing cold, and you are going to run into some adhesion issues.

As you can see from the pictures below (lovingly shared by  the Shannon Makes Stuff blog), here’s a decal that’s just not quite sticking to the wall it’s on…

It doesn’t look good, right? Our decals should look almost “painted” onto the wall and those certainly don’t look like it. That would drive me crazy; trying to press it down flat every time I walked by!

Here’s the solution! Take your hair dryer and plug it in. Apply low, gentle, light heat over the decal with the hair dryer.

Don’t go over each letter too long! If it gets too hot, you can melt the vinyl, cause a mess, and it will shrivel up. Just a second or so will be fine. With the correct heat applied, you can see the pieces that wouldn’t stick on your wall before attach themselves to the wall! Remember that freezer and glue you imagined before? Now picture the glue warm and tacky- that is what is happening on the back of your decal, it is loosening and getting increasingly tacky. Stop and press the vinyl down gently with your fingers.

Viola! It’s fixed! As you can see in the pictures below, the vinyl is adhering  to the wall as it should and looks much better!

Okay so you are reading this blog in the summer- so why is the vinyl not sticking in the first place? It bears asking. It could be the vinyl, the temperature, the paint on the wall, the texture of the wall, the humidity…who knows? Sometimes, not often, but sometimes it does just happen. Sometimes, the decals just don’t want to stick very well. If that ever happens to you, here’s your solution!

As always, no matter what you decide to purchase to make your home just a little bit more beautiful, Trading Phrases always offers free shipping on orders over $75, free color samples, and a free practice design and installation tool are included with every order! Don’t forget that our friendly customer service staff are always available via e-mail and phone to help you out with any problems or questions you might have!

So the next time your vinyl decal doesn’t quite stick to your wall, have no fear! It’s not ruined.  Just call us! And remember… your walls should make you smile!
