So you love the look of accent walls in homes, but you don't want to have to get out the fumes and move all the furniture to get one, yeah? We've come up with 5 great ideas that don't require a drop cloth...
Guest Blogger Post:
You walk into any model home or even your posh friend's place and instantly feel depressed that your home doesn't have the same grandeur that their house has. But really, it is so easy to get the same (or similar) looks not only on a budget, but with limited talent!
Below I've compiled the top 5 ways to create that fabulous ACCENT WALL with little to no work and absolutely NO paint! Now, in no particular order, check out my fabulous finds...
Wall Runner Wall Decals: This can't get any easier! You get a sheet (or two, or three) of these funky decals and stick them right to your wall. Hang something over them (like a big art print or family photos) to give it an instant 3D chic look. Below are some different options or you can check out Trading Phrases, the company that carries them HERE.
*Note- If you've never used decals before, they are like a sticker with no clear backing. You just rub the decal that applies to your wall. It looks like the design is painted on when it's applied. They are about 3 paint layers thick and Trading Phrases has 63 colors to pick from. Basically, you just stick them up like a sticker! Watch an installation video here.
Picture Wall: I know you've seen these, since they are all over the web! Beautiful black and white photos in black frames, mismatched frames that all seem to go together, canvases, or even photo collage sticks that adhere right to your wall are some ways to get this look. However, there are a hundred different ways to get the look and they are all breathtaking! I priced out doing the mismatched frames option myself with some goodwill frames (Okay, so I didn't just price it out. I thrifted and bought 17 frames!). But then I figured out they didn't match how I'd like them to, and then I had to print photos to go in each of them and they are all different sizes. So, I gave up. However, you probably have a bit more drive and dedication than I do! I simply went with this adhesive photo collage for my space (on the wall going up the stairs) and it stuck right to the wall. It was was simple and cheap, but I may cut it up and mount the photos later on. Below are some pictures I used for inspiration for the adhesive collage I was talking about.
Pallet Wall: I love this look. I truly and madly do. If you can pull this off, I'll hire you to do mine, honest! I tried to rip apart a pallet and promptly gave up (See a common thread here? I only do easy projects!). I did hear from a handy friend that you can get a similar look by picking up old barn wood (Check out Craigslist for something like this) and then cutting each piece down to size. I recommend that option, because if you've ever tried to pry apart a pallet you will know what I'm talking about. It's painful. The images below are pinterest finds. Sorry I don't have a link!
Triangle wall: I was cruising around the Internet for ideas and found THIS. According to the blog, she only used $3.00 worth of white shelf liner and a bit of her time. I like this look, but I wonder how it would actually look in person. Please send me a photo if you try it! I don't think I have enough patience to cut each piece perfectly and then hang them so evenly. Mine would probably look like something my toddler could do. Hey, I might just make her do it!
Family Tree Wall-:This one really requires the perfect space and an enterprising mind. I love the concept and would happily do it, though. I just need to compile all of my pictures first. Now, I mentioned all of these are "no paint" solutions. So, I found several tree decals on that website I mentioned earlier (Why stray, if they have the best stuff?) and have linked them here for you. Basically, buy one of these babies, slap it up on your wall, and apply your family photos either directly to the wall, in frames. Some of the trees even come with vinyl "frames" to use. If you don't like either option, you could just have a sweet tree on your wall. Even better! I like the birch trees and I've seen people use actual birdhouses on their wall to make this look more 3D. So cool!
Let me know if you decide to go with any of these styles. Also, let me know how much relative effort you had to put into them! I'd love to see how they turned out and maybe do a few more of my own! I've already done the collage and I love how it turned out, but I'm certainly eyeing the trees too. Good luck, and happy DIY-ing!
